Panaji, Feb. 18 -- A local court in Goa on Monday sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment a 31-year-old man who it earlier held guilty of raping and murdering a British-Irish tourist at a beach in March 2017, wrapping up proceedings in a case that rocked the province and triggered concerns about women's safety.

In her order, sessions judge Kshama Joshi also sentenced the convict, Vikat Bhagat, to three years' imprisonment for destroying evidence. Both sentences which will run concurrently.
