MAdurai Mayor's husband held in property tax case
Chennai, Aug. 14 -- Madurai mayor P Indrani's husband Pon Vasanth has been arrested in connection with the Rs.200-crore property tax scam in the Tamil Nadu city's civic body, officers said on Wednesday. He has been admitted to a hospital after being diagnosed with hypertension.
The special investigation team (SIT) probing the case arrested Vasanth, who was suspended from ruling DMK in May for "anti-party" activities, in Chennai on Tuesday. On Wednesday, when police took him to the Government Rajaji Hospital for a check-up before producing him in court for a remand, doctors found him to have high blood pressure following which he was admitted, an officer said.
