New Delhi, Jan. 12 -- On August 31, 2011, an extraordinary report was submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC). It was the Western Ghat Ecology Expert Panel Report, headed by the Harvard- returned scientist, Dr Madhav Gadgil. After his PhD, he did the unthinkable: he returned to India in the early 1970s and joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He also became a visiting professor at Berkeley and Stanford Universities. In India, Gadgil deployed science in service of the country.
