India, Aug. 3 -- Luka Doncic has signed a blockbuster contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 26-year-old has agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension, eliminating a chance at free agency next summer. The deal will keep the Slovenian in LA through 2028, and give him a shot at earning close to $500 million when he completes 10 years in the NBA.

While the Lakers and Doncic announced the extension on social media, they did not get into details.

"Excited to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud," Doncic wrote X, platform formerly known as Twitter. "Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates, and all the fans who've shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning."
