New Delhi, Feb. 15 -- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday suggested a larger scope of involvement of lawmakers and proposed that a format of draft laws be shared with MPs and MLAs to ensure "better quality" in drafting laws. Birla also rued the current system where "bureaucrats do legislative drafting".

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day orientation programme organised for the members of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Haryana, Birla said that the more thorough the review in the assembly, the better governance will function, ensuring accountability.

"At present, in our system, bureaucrats do legislative drafting, and we bring that legislative draft to the Vidhan Sabha or the Lok Sabha. While making laws, due to shortcoming...
