New Delhi, April 9 -- Faecal coliform levels in the Yamuna dropped in March compared to February, but pollution in the river remains dangerously high - and worse than the same period last year, according to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee's (DPCC) latest report.

Released Tuesday, the report shows faecal coliform levels at 1.3 million MPN/100ml in March - down from February's 16 million, but significantly higher than the 0.22 million recorded in March 2024. The permissible limit is 2,500 MPN/100ml.

At Palla, where river enters Delhi, levels stood at 2,100 MPN. This peaked at 1.3 million at Asgarpur, where the river exits the city.
