New Delhi, Feb. 16 -- The Indian women's hockey team defeated England 3-2 in their opening match of the FIH Pro League at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Vice-captain Navneet Kaur (59th minute) sealed the victory with a decisive late winner after Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke (6th) and Deepika (25th) found the net for India. Darcy Bourne (12th) and Fiona Crackles (58th) scored for England.
Two of India's goals came from penalty corners, showcasing an improvement in an area that has often been considered their Achilles heel. The late goal secured a dramatic victory for India, earning them three points to start their campaign on a high.
