NEW DELHI, Dec. 25 -- Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, leaders of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, submitted a dissent note over the selection of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson and members, saying that the process was fundamentally flawed.

"This departure undermines the principles of fairness and impartiality, which are critical to the credibility of the Selection Committee," Kharge and Gandhi said in the note.

The two had proposed the names of Justices (retd) Rohinton Fali Nariman, KM Joseph for the position of NHRC chief, citing both merit and the need for inclusivity. However, former SC judge Justice (retd) V Ramasubramanian was on Monday appointed as the chief of the body. P9
