India, Jan. 1 -- Bangladesh and Nepal are set to hold general elections in February and March, respectively, after separate uprisings led to a regime change. New Delhi, which has urged fair and inclusive polls in both countries, will keep close watch on the electoral process, with a view to maintaining regional stability amid heightened tensions with Pakistan. The Bangladesh elections will decide the near future of a critical neighbour that underpins India's security, with the post-Sheikh Hasina transition already straining ties. In Nepal, the results will determine whether Kathmandu aligns with India's Neighbourhood First agenda or tilts further towards China.
