India, Aug. 19 -- The central government is set to move three key bills in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, August 20, to codify a legal framework for the removal of the prime minister, union ministers, chief ministers and other ministers in state and UTs, if they are arrested on certain serious criminal charges.
These bills speak only of charges, not requiring conviction by a court.
Union home minister Amit Shah will, thus, also move a motion to refer these three bills to a joint committee of Parliament, PTI reported, as the bills are likely to face stringent opposition.
There have been recent cases of incumbent CMs - such as Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi and Hemant Soren in Jharkhand - who spent several weeks in jail on corruption allegations....
