Bengaluru, March 19 -- The Karnataka government on Tuesday introduced a bill in the state assembly proposing a 4% reservation for Muslims in public contracts, a move that sparked severe objections from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which termed the legislation "unconstitutional".
The Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was introduced in the assembly by state law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil. The discussion on the amendment is expected to take place on Wednesday.
The bill was tabled days after the Karnataka cabinet approved the legislation, which reserves 4% of civil works contracts up to Rs.2 crore and goods and services contracts up to Rs.1 crore for Muslims. The proposal was ...
