New Delhi, April 21 -- The Jawaharlal Nehru University's student union elections remain postponed following allegations of violence against election committee (EC) members during the nomination withdrawal phase.
While Left student groups have backed the EC and called for more security, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) accused the EC of extending deadlines to benefit Left alliances, which were not able to form an alliance for the student elections this year.
"Usually All India Students' Association (AISA) and Students' Federation of India (SFI) form an alliance but this year, they have not been able to reach an agreement," said an ABVP member. "The extensions were granted to help AISA and SFI field a unified front in the polls...
