NAGPUR, Feb. 12 -- A soldier was killed on Tuesday when an encounter broke out between Maoists and security fores in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, police said.
A senior officer said 18 units of C-60 - a special commando unit of the Maharashtra Police that fights Maoism - and two units of the CRPF's Quick Action Team launched a search operation on Monday based on intelligence inputs about a Maoist camp being set up between Dirangi and Fulnar villages.
"On Tuesday morning, police cordoned off the area, leading to an exchange of fire with Maoists, which continued throughout the day. The Maoist camp was busted by the joint team, and several items were seized," he said.
