jarange-patil gets police nod to hold protest at azad maidan
Mumbai, Aug. 28 -- Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil on Wednesday received permission from police to hold an agitation at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on August 29, people familiar with the matter said. The nod comes a day after the Bombay high court said the activist could not hold his protest without obtaining prior permission from police.
Jarange-Patil, who embarked on a visit to Mumbai on Wednesday morning from Jalna district with his supporters, had announced an indefinite hunger strike to press for his demands for the inclusion of Marathas in Maharashtra's OBC quota.
As per the letter sent by Azad Maidan police station to Jarange-Patil's supporters, a maximum of 5,000 people can participate in the August 29 protest at Azad Maidan.
