The administration of the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University on Wednesday terminated the services of a 36-year-old contractual assistant professor with the department of political sciences, two days after he was arrested for allegedly raping a colleague and breaching a promise of marriage, according to the university and police.
The administration clarified that the alleged incident took place outside the university premises and was a personal matter. "The university strongly condemned the crime and emphasised that any attack on the dignity and rights of women would not be tolerated," a JMI official said.
