Mumbai, March 20 -- Union minister of state for science and technology Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said the proposed Jaitapur Nuclear Power Park (JNPP) in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra is an important project towards achieving India's net zero emissions goal by 2070.

"Nuclear power is a clean source of energy. In the budget recently presented, we laid before us the target of achieving 100 gigawatts of energy through nuclear sources. The Jaitapur project will have six units, each comprising a capacity of 1,730 megawatts, totaling 10,380 megawatts. In other words, 10% of the 100 gigawatts is going to be contributed by this project," said Singh, who also holds charge of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
