India, Aug. 13 -- Israeli envoy Reuven Azar raised eyebrows in diplomatic and political circles on Tuesday by engaging in a spat with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and accusing her of "deceit" over her remarks regarding "genocide" in Gaza. The Congress bristled at the tone and tenor of Azar's comments, which were also criticised by other political parties. The Congress also called for an intervention by the Centre. Gandhi in a post on X questioned the Centre's silence as "Israel unleashes devastation on Palestine". Azar replied: "What is shameful is your deceit. The terrible cost in human lives derives from Hamas' heinous tactics of hiding behind civilians." P10
