Jerusalem, Aug. 11 -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the country's new plan to expand the war in Gaza and target the remaining Hamas strongholds there was "the best way to end the war", defying growing calls to stop the fighting. In a press conference in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said the new operation would be implemented on "a fairly short timetable because we want to bring the war to an end". "Our goal is not to occupy Gaza, our goal is to free Gaza," Netanyahu said. He said the new operation's aim was "to dismantle the two remaining Hamas strongholds in Gaza City and the central camps".
