India, Jan. 20 -- The IRS has announced a new tax benefit offering up to $6000 for Americans aged 65 and older will be available for the 2026 tax filing season for the 2025 tax year.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act allows taxpayers 65 and older to claim an extra $6,000 without having to itemize their deductions.

The senior "bonus" deduction is scheduled to end in the 2028 tax year.

According to IRS guidance, the long-standing supplementary deduction for the aged and visually handicapped and married couples filing jointly can also claim senior tax deductions. However, this is subject to income phase-out limits.
