India, April 19 -- A 21-year-old Indian woman studying at Mohawk College in Canada's Ontario was killed on Wednesday after being allegedly struck by a stray bullet during a shooting incident near a bus stop, police said.

The deceased student has been identified as Harsimrat Randhawa. Hamilton Police described her as an "innocent bystander" waiting to board a bus to commute to work.

Police statement said that they received reports of a shooting near Upper James and South Bend Road streets in Hamilton at around 7.30 pm local time on Wednesday. Randhawa was found dead by police who reached the crime scene immediately. She was rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to the stray bullet injury, which hit her chest.
