India, Aug. 19 -- India's squad for the Women's World Cup has been announced. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side, while Smriti Mandhana will serve as her deputy. Shafali Verma is not included in the 15-member team. The 50-over tournament will begin on September 30 with India taking on Sri Lanka in the opener. India are yet to win the tournament. The side under the captaincy of Mithali Raj reached the final in the 2017 edition; however, India fell short against England at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground.
The 2025 edition of the tournament will be played in India. Hence, Harmanpreet Kaur and the rest of her team have a chance of scripting something special for the fans of women's cricket in India.
