India, May 14 -- India aims to achieve 500 gigawatts (GW) of installed electricity generation capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030, necessitating more than a doubling of the non-fossil capacity installed as of late 2024. Most of this growth is planned from renewable energy (RE), specifically solar and wind. This non-fossil capacity target surpasses India's commitment for 50% of its electric power installed capacity to derive from non-fossil fuel-based energy, as part of its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
