India, Aug. 5 -- A day after the Supreme Court made stern comments against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with a criminal defamation case involving Indian soldiers, the Congress party and its INDIA bloc allies on Tuesday strongly criticised the remarks of the top court, calling them an "unwarranted" interference in the democratic rights of political parties.

In a joint statement issued after a meeting of INDIA bloc floor leaders in Parliament, the opposition alliance expressed concern over the SC's comments directed at the Lok Sabha leader of opposition.
