India, Oct. 14 -- Before the police arrested the woman's classmate - who was with her that night - and ruled out gangrape in the Durgapur case in West Bengal by Tuesday night, the investigating cops earlier in the day had already pointed to several contradictions.
These contraditions were in the statements made by the survivor, her friend, the medical records and the arrested suspects, cops said. The police also said the security camera footage contradicted the versions of the event as presented by the woman and others.
Police had on Monday arrested a fifth suspect, Sheikh Safiqul, in connection with the alleged assault of a 23-year-old medical student near her college campus on the evening of October 10.
