New Delhi, April 18 -- The maximum temperature rose by 1.5 notches on Thursday and crossed 40degC. It was recorded at 40.6degC, which was 3.8degC above normal. Meanwhile, surface winds at 10-20kmph were also recorded.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Saturday, warning residents of light rain in the city, accompanied by thunderstorm or lightning with winds at 30-40kmph.

The minimum was logged 25.7degC, 4.1degC above normal.

An IMD official said partly cloudy skies will persist from Friday.

Delhi's air quality index (AQI) remained in the 'poor' category and was recorded at 204 at 4pm on Thursday, as per CPCB's daily bulletin.
