Shillong, Nov. 26 -- Meghalaya law minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday said the state's continued demand for an Inner Line Permit (ILP) reflects clear gaps in existing mechanisms meant to curb unchecked influx and illegal immigration into Meghalaya. "If the present laws were enough, we wouldn't have asked for ILP. We have seen there are some shortcomings in the existing laws - that is why we are asking for ILP implementation," Rymbui told journalists. The minister pointed out that the Assembly had passed amendments to the MRSSA, but the legislation remains with the President for consideration. "Unfortunately, it was referred to the President and I cannot comment on that," he said.
