Chandigarh, May 18 -- Concerns have been raised regarding the reliability of gluten-free labelling on food products in India.
Speaking at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on International Celiac Disease Awareness Day (May 16), Dr Sadhna Lal cautioned that rigorous testing of products claiming to be gluten-free was not consistently conducted in the country. Given this, medical professionals are advising individuals with celiac disease to prioritise home-made food.
Celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder characterised by intolerance to gluten (a protein found in wheat), necessitates a gluten-free diet for affected individuals.
