HC rejects plea against lighting lamp in TN
Bengaluru/Chennai, Dec. 5 -- Amid the ongoing tension in Tamil Nadu over the lighting of a religious lamp at Thiruparankundram hill in Madurai district, the Madras high court directed the local police to permit devotees to light the lamp on Thursday night and make adequate security arrangements. However, several people, including state BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran, were detained when they attempted to light the lamp.
In a hearing earlier in the day, justice GR Swaminathan warned the Madurai superintendent of police of "strict action" if the court's orders were not complied with.
