India, Nov. 5 -- The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to a 65-year-old man who was allegedly a part of the organised syndicate that executed the triple blasts in the city on July 13, 2011, which killed more than 20 people. The accused, Kafeel Ahmed Ayub, was granted bail considering his prolonged incarceration of more than 10 years and little scope of completion of the trial in the foreseeable future.
The division bench of justices AS Gadkari and RR Bhonsale, while granting bail to Ayub, referred to a landmark 2021 judgement (Union of India vs. KA Najeeb) by the Supreme Court, which said that bail could not be indefinitely denied even to those booked under stringent laws like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
