HC directs govt to lock union rooms in colleges
Kolkata, July 4 -- The Calcutta high court on Thursday ordered that students' union rooms in colleges and universities across West Bengal should remain closed, with the directive coming amid widespread outrage over alleged gang rape of a first-year student inside the premises of South Calcutta Law College on June 25.
A division bench comprising justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De passed the order while hearing a set PILs on the alleged gang rape. The court also directed the state government to file an affidavit detailing the progress of the investigation into the gang rape case.
