Lucknow, July 21 -- A certificate from Arya Samaj Mandir alone is not a valid certificate of marriage, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has ruled, as it dismissed a woman's plea seeking compassionate appointment, holding that a marriage with a man whose first marriage was not legally dissolved is void. Justice Manish Mathur ruled that a divorce between a Hindu couple can only be effected under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, and not through an agreement on a stamp paper.
