India, Dec. 3 -- A woman was arrested in Haryana's Panipat after she killed her six-year-old niece amid wedding festivities in their family, police said on Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Poonam, who allegedly drowned the child in a water tub. The victim, who is originally from Sonipat in Haryana, had come to Naultha village in Panipat's Israna area with her family to attend a relative's wedding, NDTV reported.

She was accompanied by her father Sandeep, mother, 10-month-old brother, her grandfather Pal Singh and grandmother Omwati.
