India, July 17 -- The Banni grasslands in Kutch district of Gujarat are likely to house as many as 10 cheetahs in the next four to five months, said senior Gujarat government officials aware of the development. "After the monsoon, there is a plan to introduce 5 male and 5 female cheetahs in Banni. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is in talks with three countries, including Namibia, South Africa, and Kenya, for reintroducing cheetahs in Gujarat," said a senior official aware of NTCA's plans. The Gujarat Forest Department has set-up a 600-hectare enclosure in Banni, and introduced a prey base of 250 animals,for the breeding centre where the 10 cheetahs will be kept initially.htc
