DARBHANGA, Feb. 24 -- Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday emphasised the government's commitment to supporting makhana (fox nut) farmers, stating that efforts are underway to ensure that farmers cultivating the crop on leased land also benefit from central schemes.
Addressing makhana growers in Darbhanga, he said, "Makhana is a powerhouse of nutrition, but cultivating it is not an easy task. The hardships faced by farmers in growing makhana can be understood only by visiting them on the ground." To ease cultivation challenges, he announced plans for thornless makhana seeds and mechanisation of farming processes.
