Govt clears 4 chip plants, funding for dam near border in Arunachal
New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- The Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved four semiconductor units under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), taking the total number of such units in India to 10. The four upcoming units - two in Odisha's Bhubaneswar, one in Andhra Pradesh and one in Punjab's Mohali - will have total investments worth Rs.4,594 crore.
The cabinet also approved Rs.8,146.21 crore for a 700 MW hydroelectric project, Tato-II, in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi Yomi district, a move that comes weeks after China began construction of what is set to be the world's largest river dam on the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra river.
