New Delhi, Jan. 17 -- At least 242 illegal betting and gambling website links were blocked on Friday as part of the Union government's ongoing action against unlawful online gaming platforms, as per officials at the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY).
With this, the number of blocked illegal betting and gambling websites has crossed 7,800. Officials said enforcement has increased sharply after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act's passing, which bans online money gaming.
"Today's action reflects the government's commitment to protect users especially youth, and to curb financial and social harm caused by illegal online betting and gambling platforms," said officials.
