India, March 17 -- Data collected by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) health department has revealed that the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) caseload in the first two months of 2025 is similar to the annual GBS cases reported in 2023 and 2024. The numbers collected by PMC officials from private and government hospitals show that the city reported 198 GBS cases in 2023 and 205 in 2024, while in just months of 2025, Pune has already logged 141 cases and nine suspected deaths.

Health officials attribute the outbreak, particularly in the Sinhgad Road area, to contaminated water.
