New Delhi, Feb. 23 -- A panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday approved the appointment of former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das as the second principal secretary to the PM, apparently to leverage his vast experience in dealing with economic issues at a time when the world is staring at a tariff war and the rupee needs stability.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Das's appointment as Principal Secretary-II to the Prime Minister "with effect from the date he assumes the office" and "his appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier", according to an official order issued on Saturday.
