GUWAHATI, May 1 -- The Congress party in Assam directed all its district units on Wednesday to lodge FIRs against chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged derogatory comments against women while campaigning for the upcoming panchayat elections in the state. Sarma had allegedly made the comments about women regarding government jobs during the previous Congress regimes in the state. The comments led to outrage on social media with the Congress demanding an apology from the CM. "The comment is not only baseless, but also deeply offensive and disrespectful to the dignity of women. Such remarks are unacceptable and reflect a deplorable standard of public discourse," the Congress said.
