Uttarkashi, Aug. 12 -- A search was launched on Monday to locate a 31-year-old man after the Poclain digger he was operating fell into the Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district, officials said. The man was engaged in clearing a damaged stretch of road between Dabrani and Songad areas of the district when the incident took place, officials said, and also added that efforts were underway to locate the driver. Meanwhile, relief efforts were being carried out on a "war footing" as per the chief minister's directions, said Garhwal divisional commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. Repair of road links to Harsil-Dharali was progressing rapidly, he added.
