New Delhi, July 19 -- Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, in a legal opinion issued to Vedanta Ltd, has strongly condemned a report published by US-based short-seller Viceroy Research Group, terming it "defamatory," "lacking credibility," and an instance of market manipulation designed to unlawfully profit from a fall in share prices. In his 20-page legal opinion, delivered on a query from Vedanta Ltd following the publication of the Viceroy's controversial July 9 report, the former CJI held that the elements required to establish both civil and criminal defamation were "clearly satisfied."
