Chandigarh, Jan. 14 -- The Haryana government on Tuesday issued directions to the state police and prosecution department to ensure effective and purposeful utilisation of the plea bargaining provisions contained in Chapter XXIII of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

Plea bargaining is a process in which an accused in a criminal case agrees to plead guilty to a lesser charge or to a reduced sentence in exchange for some concession from the prosecutor or the court.
