New Delhi, Nov. 1 -- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has revised norms for wheelchair services, permitting airlines to levy a fee for wheelchair assistance availed by able-bodied people at airports. According to the new rules, notified on October 29, airlines "may levy appropriate assistance fees from passengers other than persons with disability (Divyangjan) and persons with reduced mobility who opt to use these services", the regulator said. Until now, wheelchair assistance was typically provided without charge.
