delhi police busts arms factory in meerut, arrest 5 for supply in ncr
New Delhi, Jan. 17 -- In the run-up to the Republic Day, the Delhi Police on Friday said they have busted an illicit firearm manufacturing factory in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut and recovered 20 countrymade pistols with 12 cartridges and equipment used for manufacture.
Five people were arrested. The syndicate supplied illicit firearms to gangsters in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, said deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Amit Goel.
The arrested men were identified as Ashraf Ali,50, Upender, 32, Satish, 49, Bharat alias Bharu and Imteyaz, 28.
Bharat was previously booked in six cases of attempt to murder and robbery, while Imteyaz was involved in eight robbery and snatching cases, the DCP said.
