New Delhi, Nov. 12 -- Lieutenant governor (LG) VK Saxena approved the recruitment of 1,463 health care staff, including 701 nurses and 762 paramedical staff, to address the shortage of medical personnel in the Capital, the LG secretariat said on Monday.

The posts will be filled on an outsourcing basis through public-sector undertakings by individual hospitals against the recruitment quota, officials said.

The Delhi government, responding to the development, said it has been seeking the appointments for over a year and a half, as the power to do so lies with the LG.

Officials with the LG secretariat said the drive aligns with a high court directive to enhance health care infrastructure.
