India, Feb. 8 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took an early lead as the counting of votes for the Delhi assembly election began on Saturday morning. The JP Nadda-led party was leading in 44 seats, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 25 seats and the Congress in one seat.
Delhi chief minister Atishi is trailing in Kalkaji against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri. BJP's Parvesh Verma is leading in the New Delhi seat against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal.
The counting of votes in all 70 Delhi assembly seats began at 8 am on Saturday. The results will be declared today.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hopes to dislodge the well-entrenched Aam Aadmi Party from power and form a government in Delhi after 27 years.
