New Delhi, Feb. 17 -- The mass death of Olive Ridley turtles along the Tamil Nadu coast is a severe warning to India. And we should treat it as a warning, because we enjoy about 7,500km of a coastline.

What is this warning about? Nature is pointing out the cost of devastating marine life. No single reason has been identified for this, but scientists and local communities who understand the ecology suggest it could be a combination of plastics, other pollutants, illegal trawlers and poor safeguards for coasts. The fragility of the coast has been flagged many times.
