Chandigarh, Jan. 28 -- Custodial death is one of the worst crimes in a civilised society governed by the rule of law, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chandigarh said on Monday, as it sentenced Himachal Pradesh inspector general of police (IGP) Zahur Haider Zaidi and seven other police officers to life imprisonment in a 2017 custodial death case.
The sentencing came nearly 10 days after a special CBI court convicted Zaidi and others in the custodial death of an accused in the gang rape-murder of a girl in Shimla district in July 2017. P8
