India, Dec. 31 -- I
ndia's largest airline, IndiGo, plunged into chaos in early December after failing to adapt to new pilot rest rules, stranding over 600,000 passengers. The airline struggled with roster mismanagement and the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms, cancelling over 4,500 flights in 10 days. The disruptions affected nearly all of IndiGo's domestic flights, even as their international operations remained unscathed. Civil aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu blamed the airline for "crew mismanagement." The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) summoned CEO Pieter Elbers, warning of regulatory action. The airline got FDTL exemptions until February 2026, drawing criticism from pilot unions.
