Consenting adults have right to marry: Delhi HC
New Delhi, Feb. 7 -- Right to marry is part of personal liberty and consenting adults do not need societal or parental approval to choose their partners, the Delhi High Court has held while granting police protection to a couple facing threats from their families following their marriage.
A bench of Justice Saurabh Banerjee, in its February 3 order, said that due sanctity must be accorded to the decision to marry, particularly when the individuals involved are consenting adults who unquestionably possess the constitutional right to choose their life partners.
